Look who Mrs Moriarty bumped into at the Camperdown Show! Mrs Moriarty met George the Farmer and his creators Simone Kain and Ben Hood when the trio were sharing their stories, performing songs and signing books at the Show. Mrs Moriarty asked George, Simone and Ben to sign the books that the 2016 Year 3A students purchased with their Eisteddfod price money after they had a memorable skype session with Simone about author’s intent and the creation of George. These great Aussie books are available for borrowing from the Timboon community library. Thumb’s up Mate! Today the Year 9/10 Marketing/Commerce class hosted Mark Cuthell, the Coordinator of the Port Campbell Visitor Information Centre, who described how the region is being promoted to visitors and potential travelers worldwide. Mark explained that approximately 2.1 million tourists visit the 12 Apostles but that 1 million people then travel back through Simpson without venturing further west during their day trips to the region. He described the travel cycle and the way social media plays such an important role in shaping visitor behaviour. Mark challenged students to consider opportunities to develop ventures that can tap into a lucrative visitor economy which based on Port Campbell bed nights alone injects $39.5 million dollars into the regional economy. What a wonderful, opportunistic part of the world we live in! NB: The above figure is constructed from 1 800 beds/campsites in Port Campbell at average 50% capacity (taking in to consideration lower year round occupancy in campsites) = 900 visitors per night x 365 nights = 328 500 nights x average spend per head for overnight travel in regional Victoria $120 ~ 328 500 x $120.00 = $39 420 000.00 . The Term 4 TAP ideas board in the staff room at Timboon P-12 School challenging staff and students to consider agriculture when planning their curriculum or future. |
