As we launch into 2021, we are challenging students to consider a career in agriculture and encouraging staff to use careers in ag as a platform or conduit to discover many the curriculum or applied learning opportunities that can be used to engage or inspire the students in their classrooms. The Term 1 Staff noticeboard encourages students to be active in our community, ‘Put yourself in the Picture’ and to contemplate that ‘The world needs YOU to consider a career in agriculture’ Sharing our learning with educators, industry and community organisations has always been a feature of the TAP, especially when we have created community/school engagement models that have been refined over the last 9 years. After the recognition received by the 2019 TAP into Bushfires and 2020 STEP Up! entries in the Resilient Australia School Awards, we were invited to share our projects with the CFA as they develop their 'Schools in Fire Country' project. Sharon Misfud, (CFA Community Based Bushfire Management Project Officer) and Neil Munro, (CFA Senior Engagement Advisor - Program Development) participated in a Zoom meeting learning about the Year 7/8 TAP into Bushfires unit, TAP's On! workshops and maths lessons created about bushfire spread. We look forward to seeing how this new CFA resource is shared across schools to to increase resilience, reduce anxiety and empower students to take an active role in bushfire safety. Once again we were proud to contribute to the Timboon P-12 annual school publication of Baringa in what was an ‘interesting’ year. Love the Albus Dumbledore quote, check it out! So, how did the TAP survive 2020? We proudly share the 2020 TAP newsletter in what has been an extremely complex year. Many of the new or regular hands-on activities of the TAP had to be cancelled; but where it was possible to approximate the experience remotely, our brilliant teachers, and engaged TAP contributors found a way. We would like to acknowledge this support and thank our students and school families who supported these endeavors and tasks so enthusiastically. The TAP is a real school-community partnership as it would not have existed for 9 years without the active support of so many in our community. Thank you to everyone concerned and to Robyn Vale, the editor of our 2020 TAP newsletter who documented the TAP journey through 2020. The 2020 TAP newsletter is attached as a PDF in the "What is TAP?" section of the TAP Blog |
