They have combined their study of agriculture history with current day practice to produce a visual display of our productive dairying region.
Congratulations to the Year 3 and 4 students, their teachers and the mighty Mrs Berry for completing their Picasso cow. They have combined their study of agriculture history with current day practice to produce a visual display of our productive dairying region. As part of their Cows Create Careers unit the Year 7/8 students have proudly displayed the winners of their CCC Primary School colouring competition in the foyer at the office. Thanks to everyone who participated as many great entries were received and congratulations to the 7 winners who each won a Dairy Australia beanie. To conclude their on farm studies as part of the Cows Create Careers elective unit, the Year 7/8 students visited the dairy farms of Matt Whitehead and Jan Raleigh. Matt described his career path from Timboon P-12 School to running a family farm and how the latest technology and fully feeding his cows has impacted on their business. At Jan's property students heard of Jan's journey from Nursing to running the family farm & she demonstrated how water is used to provide separate stalls for her cows in her herringbone dairy. Jan also described the background and traits of her award winning Aussie Red herd. As part of their investigation of recycling and waste reduction in the classroom, at home, on farm and in our community the Year 1 students hosted Ammie Jackson, an Environmental Officer from the Corangamite Shire. Ammie explained how we can all do our part to reduce waste and distributed rubbish free lunch boxes to the students. Thanks, Ammie! Well done to the Cows Create Careers team who took out top honours this year. A fantastic effort by all the students, Gemma Dennis and Fiona Allan their teachers, Peter Fulton who supplied the calves and Simone Renyard who organised the program.
The Year 9/10 Business study students turned our edible, dried lavender into some amazing treats. Well done, they were delicious. As part of the CCC program the students have been inspired to create videos and models that demonstrate some of the key concepts learnt. As part of the Cows Create Careers course, as well as learning about animal husbandry and the Australian Dairy Industry, the year 7/8 students are introduced to a variety of career paths in agriculture, specifically dairy. We were fortunate to have a panel of speakers come into the classroom to discuss their various backgrounds, education, why they chose Ag, what they liked about Ag, their thoughts on the industry and they passed on advice about potential careers or career paths for our students. The panel comprised of Tristan Reid - from The Vet Group (pictured) , David Mellor- Cheese Grader from WCB, Carlie Barry - Field Officer from Fonterra, Kelly Slattery - Technical rep from Reid Stockfeeds and Michael Vogels- an ex Timboon P-12 student who studied at Marcus Oldham. The Year 10 Science class undertook a soap making experiment using the lavender oil produced from our lavender farm. Some excellent results were achieved and a greater understanding of the processes involved in making soap obtained. As part of their TAP into Farm Science 'Paddock to Plate' unit the year 3/4 students visited the dairy farm of Tim and Bronwyn Lenehan and the beef property of Richard and Kylie Martin.
